Cinco De Mayo 2011

I thought it'd be very fun to have a Cinco De Mayo party with the kids this year. We had nachos, made paper tissue balls, and even a pinata. Since this was the 'first' Cinco De Mayo party lets just say there is PLENTY of room for improvement. We played games matching the correct Spanish and English word, counting in Spanish, and ended with the world's best pinata (see below). The kids helped me get ready for the party. We had SherRae's kids come over at the last minute, as it is more fun to play with cousins versus just us.

Dad even got involved with hanging the incredible pinata. I had all intentions of spray painting it with red, green, and white. Needless to say it has been many years since I made a pinata and did not realize it would take a couple days to dry out. This poor pinata had to be reinforced with duck tape as I put it in front of the fireplace to heat/dry out, but didn't realize it would then expand the balloon which ripped the paper mache. Thank goodness for duck tape is all I can say. Granted in my defense the nice rainy, cold weather we had had all spring didn't favor me either.

Here is the line for the pinata...

Too bad it didn't make it past Brynn. I think I will plan a week or two in advance this next year and it is gonna be definitely harder and thicker...then we will see how many kids we can go through.

A for effort, right? Like I tell my kids...it's all about the memories. Also thanks Bada for capturing this epic failure of a Cinco De Mayo party for me. It definitely makes me laugh and gets my mind rolling for next year's events.
